From the Principal.

Chum Creek Primary School is a small, rural, State-run primary school. As of February 2024 our enrolment is 64.

We currently have three composite classes:

We endeavour to keep our class sizes small and equitable. With this in mind, we are not locked into these class formats.

Our school is often chosen by parents who are seeking an alternative to larger, more mainstream schools. We understand and acknowledge this, and aim to provide smaller class sizes and a more relaxed atmosphere. The wearing of our uniform is not compuldory, and students and staff are on first-name terms.

We have an ongoing cycle of renewing and improving the school’s physical environment with a view to providing the best we can for our students. We see this as important in order to support our students in their learning and to show that we value them.

Being a State-run school we must conform to DEECD requirements, and we strive to keep the channels of communication between school and home open with a view to benefitting your child. If we have concerns about a child’s development we express them to the parents. We will not conceal behaviour- or learning- problems from parents. We assume parents want to know what is going on and that they will, in turn, work cooperatively with teachers in a rational way for their child’s best interests.

“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.”

-Kay Redfield Jamison.

I hope our society can continue to provide time for our children to be children; to play and grow and learn, and to find the satisfaction in working closely with their families and trusted adults. Our school community’s commitment to providing the best for our children is the key to success. It is the hope of our staff that all parents will help us fulfil this commitment to excellence on behalf of ALL the children at Chum Creek Primary School, and that school and home can work together to build skills and knowledge, reinforce values, and develop a strong sense of self-worth. We must invest our time and energies in our most valuable resource – our children.

Thank you for taking the time to view our school’s “online presence”. If you would like to visit, feel free to contact us.

We look forward to hearing from you.
